Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect when you buy and use Atlas (the "Software"), and how we handle it. We have designed Atlas to be local-first: your campaign content stays on your own computer.
1. Summary
- Your campaign data (projects, maps, images, articles) is stored only on your device. We never receive it, and we cannot access it.
- We do not run analytics or telemetry inside the Software.
- The data we (and our providers) process is limited to what is needed to sell you the Software, activate your license, and offer updates.
2. Data we process
a) Purchase information (via Lemon Squeezy)
When you buy a license, payment is processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the Merchant of Record. Lemon Squeezy collects the information needed to complete your purchase — typically your name, email address, billing/country information, and payment details. We do not receive or store your full payment card details. We may receive limited order information (such as your email and license key) to provide support and manage licenses.
Lemon Squeezy's handling of your data is governed by their own Privacy Policy.
b) License activation and validation
To activate and periodically revalidate your license, the Software sends your license key and a device identifier (your computer's hostname) to the Lemon Squeezy licensing service. This is used solely to verify that your license is valid and within its activation limit. It is not used to track your activity.
c) Update checks
When the Software starts, it may contact a software repository to check whether a newer version is available. This request necessarily exposes your IP address and standard request metadata to the repository host (the hosting provider). This is used only to deliver updates; we do not build profiles from it.
d) Local network sharing (LAN)
Atlas can share a read-only view of your session with other devices on your local network. When you use this feature, your campaign content is transmitted over your own local network to the devices you choose to connect. This happens entirely on your network and under your control; that data does not pass through our servers.
e) Support correspondence
If you email us for support, we process the information you choose to send us (such as your email address and the contents of your message) to respond.
3. What we do NOT collect
- We do not collect or transmit the contents of your projects, maps, notes, or images to our servers.
- We do not include advertising or third-party trackers in the Software.
- We do not sell your personal data.
4. Why we process data (legal bases)
Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on:
- Performance of a contract — to sell the Software, deliver your license, and validate it;
- Legitimate interests — to provide updates, prevent fraud and license abuse, and respond to support requests;
- Legal obligations — for tax and accounting (handled by Lemon Squeezy as Merchant of Record).
5. Third parties we use
- Lemon Squeezy — payment processing (Merchant of Record) and license management. lemonsqueezy.com/privacy
- GitHub — hosting of the Software installers and update files (update checks expose your IP address and request metadata to GitHub). GitHub Privacy Statement
6. Data retention
We retain order and license information for as long as needed to support your license and to meet legal/accounting obligations. Lemon Squeezy retains purchase data according to its own policy. Local data on your device is retained until you delete it.
7. International transfers
Our providers (such as Lemon Squeezy) may process data in countries other than yours. Where required, appropriate safeguards are applied by those providers.
8. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object to processing or request portability. To exercise these rights for data we control, contact [email protected]. For purchase data held by Lemon Squeezy, you may also contact them directly.
9. Children
The Software is intended solely for users aged 18 and older. It is not directed to minors, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the limited data we process. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. You are responsible for securing your own device and for backing up your local campaign data.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version will always be posted at https://www.atlascompendium.co/privacy, with the "Last updated" date revised.
